About us
Casa Virupa understands retreats from a Buddhist perspective that places spiritual practice far from stereotypes and external forms. It's not about adopting a particular aesthetic, speaking softly, or following rules that supposedly indicate evolution, but rather understanding how the mind works and learning to relate to emotions, thoughts, and relationships in a more lucid way.
The retreat proposal consciously moves away from what Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche called spiritual materialism, that is, the tendency to turn spirituality into personal identity or image. The approach focuses on observing the mind honestly without accumulating symbols, rituals, or discourses that only reinforce the ego.
- Training attention and cultivating mental calm
- Becoming familiar with how suffering arises in one's own experience and how to let it go
- Opening space for kindness, empathy, and lucidity in everyday life
- Working on how emotions are handled and how one responds to conflict
The retreats offer a carefully prepared context where one can stop, observe oneself, and train the mind so that, upon returning to daily life, something has been reorganized from within. Spiritual practice is not reserved for special people nor does it require withdrawing from the world, but rather it is something everyday that manifests in how you relate to yourself, to other people, and to the world.
Casa Virupa's perspective considers that the spiritual has to do with looking at one's own mental patterns and honestly asking oneself whether what one does brings one closer to or further from a more awake and compassionate life. The goal is not to feel enlightened for a few days, but to cultivate a more lucid way of relating to daily experience through mental training.
