Exhibition Stand Design and Installation in Barcelona: Fira, Logistics and Exhibition Regulations
It's a question of frequency. Renting makes sense if you exhibit occasionally; buying (or commissioning a reusable modular one) pays off when you attend several fairs a year, because you amortize the investment. Work out how many fairs you'll do over two or three years before deciding.
Each venue (in Barcelona, mainly Fira) imposes its own rules, and breaking them can result in fines or dismantling. They typically regulate:
- Maximum height and distances from neighbouring stands.
- Fire-retardant materials and safety regulations.
- Mandatory insurance and installation schedules.
More than you think. For a custom stand, weeks or even months, because you need to design, produce and book installation. Leaving it to the last minute makes everything more expensive (rush charges) and limits your options. If you already know which fair you're attending, get moving as soon as you've booked your space.
Many first-time exhibitors get surprises. Besides the stand, you usually have to pay for:
- Space rental to the fair.
- Electrical connection, water or internet.
- Furniture, hostesses and storage.
- Cleaning and insurance.
Yes, if you design it with that in mind. A modular stand adapts to different space sizes and can be transported and installed multiple times, reducing the cost per fair. A unique, one-of-a-kind stand is more impressive, but usually single-use. Tell the company from the outset if you plan to reuse it.
